The Rest of our Whale Watch

Our whale watch included lunch on a secluded island, Fox Island.

There was a very pretty mash area behind the restaurant.  The trees that look dead are all from the 1969 earthquake.  When the earthquake hit, it caused a lot of the ground to settle several inches lower than it had.  That caused the ocean water into areas it had not been.  The ocean water's acid killed the trees, but it still preserved them. They are like this all over southeastern Alaska.

This where lunch was served.  Our whale watch came with an all-you-can-eat prime rib and salmon buffet, along with rice, green beans, and assorted desserts.  It was a delicious lunch, and we all really enjoyed it.

Really, the only thing on the island is the restaurant and a kayak company. Otherwise, it's just an uninhabited island.

We saw several bald eagles.  We also learned the bald eagles tend to stay near the coast, while the golden eagles are found inland near Denali (we saw both kinds during our trip).

We really, really enjoyed our whale watch and highly recommend it if you go to Alaska.  It's well worth the price, and if you are military, watch for price deals.  I found out that tickets would be 50% off one day back in April, called on that day, and I scored a very good deal.
