Part of the reason we went to Tennessee when we did was for Luke to attend camp with Nana. Nana had heard about this program at their church. "The Grand Adventure" paired campers with their grandparents for a few days at camp. We dropped our campers off Wednesday afternoon, and Luke was delighted to be there with Nana.
Our campers had a nice room to themselves.
Driving back out of the camp...there wasn't a place to really get a lot of pictures. We drove up, dropped them off, and that was it.
After that, we were hungry, and it was raining, so we decided to get some dinner. Pop was at the house, recovering from their trip to Alaska (they got home the day before), so I took the kids to our favorite restaurant in Sevierville, The Gondolier. It's a local Italian restaurant.
Madison enjoyed her plate of ravioli.
Alex was hungry and ate quite a bit of pizza.
Our waitress was super nice too. We got to talking to her because she asked if we were visitors...not quite, since we have family here. We aren't the typical vacation tourists to the area. I told her we always come to The Gondolier. Then, Alex blurts out that "Daddy is in Afghanistan." The waitress asked all about Edward then and said she'd pray for him, which was really sweet. As we got ready to go, she brought us a HUGE piece of cheesecake for free. The kids had been eye-balling the dessert counter. She just said, "Thanks for your family's service." Wow, that was really, really nice!!! It's almost odd for someone to see that we do sacrifice because we live in such a HUGE military area everyone is almost desensitized to it. When we get around the "real world," I realize that oh, yeah, most Americans are NOT dealing with these issues.
We left The Gondolier and did a little shopping at the outlets. I remembered that the weekend would bring Tax-Free shopping, and I did not want to get stuck in that in Pigeon Forge!!
