We have had a busy week here with new granite countertops going into our kitchen. Our house is now five years old, and when we moved in, the countertops seemed okay upon inspection, but we soon discovered they, like many things in the house, had been pretty beaten up. So, the past month, we've been getting estimates and learning a lot about granite countertops and kitchen backsplashes. The countertops are now in, and the backsplash will be put in at the end of next week. Here's the before and after:

Old countertop
Laundry room-we had these cabinets put in when we moved in to match the kitchen countertops, but since we were finally updating the kitchen, we'd match it to the attached laundry.
During...the guys were so handy, clean, and efficient. My kitchen looked great even during the construction process.
The new countertops! They are a "Peacock" color.
